The world cannot agree on how to measure temperature: most countries use Celsius, the United States uses Fahrenheit, and science uses Kelvin. The Temperature Converter translates a value between all three at once, so a weather report, a recipe or a physics problem makes sense no matter which scale it started in.

How to use the Temperature Converter

  1. Enter a temperature in any one of the three scales.
  2. See it instantly converted to the other two.
  3. Copy the value you need.

Three scales, one temperature

Celsius sets zero at the freezing point of water and 100 at its boiling point, which makes it intuitive for everyday weather and cooking. Fahrenheit divides that same range differently, putting freezing at 32 and boiling at 212. Kelvin starts at absolute zero — the coldest anything can be — which is why scientists prefer it. Converting between them matters constantly: following an American recipe in a Celsius country, reading an international weather forecast, or checking a scientific figure all require a quick translation.

Tips to remember

  • Water freezes at 0°C, 32°F and 273.15 K.
  • Body temperature is about 37°C or 98.6°F.
  • A rough mental Celsius-to-Fahrenheit is "double it and add 30".
  • Kelvin has no negative values, since it starts at absolute zero.
